Despite it being January, my instincts guided me to create a summer-themed area rug. Ananas Comosus Pineapple Rug will be great for your kitchen, patio, or playroom. You can even make your picnic and outdoor activities feel really special with your very own crochet centerpiece!
This rug is crocheted seamlessly from the bottom up, using 3 strands of Bernat Premium yarn held together (Gold and Spring Green colors)…which is medium weight (4) for each yarn strand or super-bulky (6) combined weight. You can check out this video on how to crochet with 3 strands from a single skein of yarn, it’s easy as pie.
The diamonds in the rug are formed using Filet Crochet technique, which is a combination of dc-stitches and ch-spaces that create open and solid meshes.
The Pineapple-Stitch for the leaves worked spot on…I am really happy with how everything laid-out. As for most pineapple-stitch patterns, blocking is quite essential. However, you do not need to block the entire rug, just do a partial Spray Blocking.
If you wish, you can also finish your rug with a removable non-slip lining (the instructions are HERE on our blog).
I hope you enjoy making our new Ananas Comosus Pineapple Rug. Here are a few examples made by our testing team members (Cynthia Fuller, Jazz Abd, Katie Bailey, Melinda Dickie, Nikki Williams). I can’t wait to see yours!
