Endless Hexi Fidget Toy Crochet Pattern by IraRott

Equilateral Triangles for Endless Fun

Ever since I was young, I've been fascinated by shapes and numbers, and I've always been drawn to geometric designs based on 60 degree shapes. I even dedicated my latest quilting book (Jelly Roll Animal Quilts) to these shapes. With that being said, you might have noticed that I love incorporating 60 degree shapes into my crochet designs as well.

Introducing the Endless Hexi Fidget Toy - my new crochet pattern featuring equilateral triangles for endless fun! I must say, I am quite pleased with how it turned out.

Endless Hexi Crochet Fidget Toy

The concept of this toy is inspired by Flexagon from origami (the Japanese art of paper folding). It helps to relieve stress and anxiety, improves concentration, and is a great tool for those who struggle with sensory sensitivities. Just spin it with your hands in either direction and never stop the flip!

Endless Hexi measures approximately 4.5", and is made using Nilli Nilli yarn by Ricorumi - a DK weight, soft chenille yarn that comes in so many fun colors. You can find this yarn in your local yarn shops and online, or use any other similar weight yarn if you wish. Although, keep in mind that your crochet tension should be fairly tight to prevent stuffing from pulling out through the stitches while being used.

You will need 4 different colors to create 24 triangles + 1 contrasting color for edging (5 colors in total). From these triangles, you will create 6 pyramids and then put them together in a special way to create your Endless Hexi. The pattern includes colored diagrams for assembling, as well as blank templates for coloring if you decide to use your own colors.

To ensure your fidget toy lasts, all the yarn ends need special attention to prevent them from coming loose. You will have many ends, but don’t worry, they are super easy and fast to conceal using fabric glue.

Instead of weaving in the ends as you would normally do, simply tie the same color ends in double-knots on WS and trim them short. Then apply a drop of permanent fabric glue on each knot and let them dry. Fabric glue is nontoxic, dries clear, and is washable.

I hope you enjoy making your Endless Hexi!

But wait, there's more! With leftover Nilli Nilli yarn, I've crafted a collection of adorable toys that aid in focus and concentration...and they even have marbles inside. When fidgeting, simply squeeze the marble from side to side in the jellyfish or twist the spirals with your fingers.
