A Story Of A Rescued UFO

A Rescued UFO

What do you do when your WIP (work in progress) turns into a UFO (unfinished object)? I bet you hide it away for a while. Well, that’s what I did with my one and only UFO…which remained hidden for nearly a decade.

As a dedicated finisher, I made a New Year resolution to complete this UFO as I knew it was waiting for me. Nothing can be wasted!

I had no pattern, just some handwritten notes, sketches, swatches, and a few finished pieces. One of the sleeves was only partially done, so my big challenge was to finish it exactly the same as the first sleeve. In addition, my knitting style has changed through the years and I had to calibrate the gauge using my old knitting style (combined continental knitting). Now I prefer Western continental style.

My old sketches were a little outdated and I definitely needed a new fresh finishing idea. So I decided to upgrade my old denim jacket using all these beautiful knit pieces. Ta-daa it turned out fantastic!

If you hesitate to complete an unfinished project, don’t abandon it, but provide it with another opportunity. There is always more than one method to finalize a UFO.
