Spike single crochet (SPsc) is worked just like a regular single crochet, but instead of inserting your hook into the current row, you work down into a stitch one or more rows below. This creates beautiful vertical lines and adds texture to your fabric.
To make a basic SPsc, insert your hook into the stitch two rows below, yarn over, and draw up a long loop to the height of your current row. Yarn over again and pull through both loops on the hook.


In the video below, I begin the round with a standing SPsc to start a new color cleanly at the beginning of the round.
