Ukraine has always had a special place in my heart. It’s a place where I was born, where my dad read me bedtime stories, where my mom taught me needle-crafting, where my grandma taught me life skills including Ukrainian Borscht (yes, it’s a skill and not a recipe)….it’s a place I’m proud to call motherland.
As a Ukrainian symbol of identity, sunflowers indicate the power of sun, prosperity, well-being and peace. My latest designs are created with a heart full of sorrow and desiring to support the people of Ukraine. I am currently selling my handmade sunflowers to help Ukrainians in need, so please follow my Instagram and Facebook announcements to see when I release new handmade items for this special cause. Thank you so much for all your support!
Like the big yellow sun, sunflowers have the heartwarming power for everyone. If you would like to make your own coasters, the pattern is free on my site – Sunflower Power Coasters.
A sunflower rug will be a great addition to any home. You can make it using a super bulky Bernat Blanket yarn (6) or 3 strands of medium weight yarn (4). Crochet rug pattern can be purchased here – Sunflower Power Doily Rug.
From the same rug pattern, you can make a matching doily by simply using a thinner yarn / thread with a smaller size hook. Here is an 18″ doily that I made from a single strand of medium weight yarn (4) using a 4.25 mm (G) hook. The thinner the yarn, the smaller your doily will be.
