Greetings, crochet enthusiasts! Presenting Rusty the Giraffe, our newest addition to the IraRott® giraffes collection. Africa’s tallest freckled mammals roam the Savannah, they are truly gentle giants. Giraffes are enchanting creatures, so interesting to watch and admire.
I had so much fun creating these big giraffes from Bernat Blanket yarn by Yarnspiration. Love their long flexible legs, chubby cheeks and cute butts! These guys are 32″ tall in sitting position or 44″ including legs.
If you wish to make a smaller size amigurumi, Rusty the Giraffe pattern can easily be adjusted using thinner yarns and a smaller size hooks. Here are a few tips on how to make an 18″ giraffe:
Recommended yarn – You will need 1 skein of Bernat Super Value or any other similar weight yarn
Body, muzzle, ears, and limbs – Use a 5 mm (H) hook
Horns – Use a 3.75 mm (F) hook
Spots – Make 4-5 using a hook 3.5 mm (E), also omit the crab stitch edging
Mane – Make an 18″ long mane using furry yarn and a 3.75 mm (F)
Tail – Make a braid using 3 groups of yarn with 5 strands in each group, 13″ long
Eyes – Use 3/4″ buttons
I hope you enjoy making Rusty, big or small. Additionally, here are some complementary patterns to enhance your set. They make wonderful additions to a Safari themed nursery or bedroom.
