Your Crochet Animal Slippers will last longer and will keep their shape if they are washed by hand. While some slippers are safe to wash on a low temperature gentle cycle, I highly encourage you not to use a washing machine for items that have dimensional add-ons, such as stuffed horns on the unicorn slippers or antlers on the moose slippers. These items need to be washed by hand only. Here are a few easy steps for hand-washing and a video demonstration as well.
- Fill a sink/basin with warm or cold water, depending on the temperature suggested on the materials’ label.
- Add delicate laundry detergent or dish soap. Dawn Ultra Original Dish Detergent is a great choice.
- Submerge your slippers and soak them for 20-30 minutes, then gently squeeze out soapy water without wringing slippers.
- Refill the sink/basin with fresh clean water and rinse your slippers gently. Repeat rinsing if needed.
- Squeeze out water and make a roll using a towel to absorb excess moisture.
- Lay your slippers flat on a clean dry towel and let them air-dry (do not tumble dry).
When I sell my handmade slippers or give them as a gift, I like adding a little note with care instructions to ensure the recipient knows how to wash them…considering the fact that slippers may need frequent washing. - Print PDF file using the following preferences in the Print Dialog Box on your computer: Actual size / Do not scale / 100%. NOTE: AirPrint through mobile devices may not always work properly, causing printing in an inverted color scheme…so be sure to make a test-print if that’s the only option for you.
- Cut out your templates using paper scissors, mark the sizes, and attach the tags to your handmade slippers.
