Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by shapes and numbers. Geometric designs have always captured my imagination, and if you’ve seen my latest book (Jelly Roll Animal Quilts), you already know how much I adore working with 60‑degree shapes. Naturally, that love spills over into my crochet designs too.
So today, I’m thrilled to introduce the Endless Hexi Fidget Toy, a playful new crochet pattern built entirely from equilateral triangles. I’m so pleased with how this little wonder turned out.

Inspired by Origami Magic
The concept behind this toy is inspired by the Flexagon, a mesmerizing origami creation that flips and folds endlessly. My crochet version offers the same soothing satisfaction:
- Helps relieve stress and anxiety
- Improves focus and concentration
- Provides sensory comfort
- Spins and flips in both directions forever
Just hold it in your hands and enjoy the rhythmic motion.
Yarn, Size & Tension Tips
The Endless Hexi measures about 4.5" and is made with Nilli Nilli by Ricorumi, a DK‑weight chenille yarn that comes in a rainbow of fun colors. You can find it online or at your local yarn shop, or substitute any similar yarn.
How It’s Constructed
You’ll need 5 colors total: 4 colors for the 24 triangles and 1 contrasting color for the edging. From these triangles, you’ll assemble 6 pyramids, then join them in a special configuration to create your Endless Hexi.
The pattern includes:
- Colored assembly diagrams
- Blank templates you can color in to plan your own palette

A Clever Way to Secure Yarn Ends
Because this project involves many small pieces, you’ll have lots of yarn ends... but don’t worry, they’re incredibly easy to manage.
Instead of weaving in ends:
- Tie same‑color ends together in double knots on the WS
- Trim them short
- Add a drop of permanent fabric glue to each knot
- Let dry
Fabric glue is nontoxic, dries clear, and is washable, perfect for a fidget toy that will be handled often.

I hope you enjoy making your Endless Hexi!
More Fidget Fun With Leftover Yarn
With my leftover Nilli Nilli yarn, I couldn’t resist creating a few more adorable fidget toys... complete with marbles inside. You can:
- Squeeze the marble from side to side in the jellyfish
- Twist the spirals with your fingers
They’re soothing, cute, and wonderfully tactile.
And the best part? The Marbled Jellyfish is now a free pattern on my website.

Find Joy in the Little Things
There are so many beautiful reasons to be happy. Keep creating, keep exploring, and always make time for the things that bring you joy.
